Dear Edward
tells the story of a 12-year-old boy named
Edward (O'Brien), who is the sole survivor
of a commercial plane crash in which he
lost his family. The Apple TV+ series
follows Edward and others affected by the
crash. The story is based on the book by
Ann Napolitano that was published in 2020.
It was very loosely inspired by the 2010
crash of Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 that
killed 103 passengers and crew. The sole
survivor was Ruben van Assouw, a
9-year-old boy whose older brother and
parents were killed in the crash.
