Tonya Harding Triple Axel First Time 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships

the first woman to complete a triple axel
in competition. The distinguishing moment
happened on February 16, 1991 at the
National Figure Skating Championships in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the
defining (positive) moment of Tonya
Harding's skating career. The announcers
express their excitement over the triple
axel as Harding's satisfaction with her
achievement is clearly visible. She won
the competition after becoming the first
American female skater to be awarded a 6.0
for technical merit.
