This 2002 Sergio Vieira de Mello U.N. New Recruit Welcome Video features Sergio, then the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, welcoming new recruits to the organization. He discusses his 30+ year career and touches on the various regions where he has done fieldwork, including East Pakistan, Cyprus, South America, Bosnia, Lebanon, Cambodia, Kosovo, and East Timor. In closing, de Mello says that the real challenges and the real rewards of serving are in the field. He would lose his life to a suicide bomber the following year in Baghdad, Iraq.
