Mrs. America stars Cate Blanchett
as conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, who
fought and successfully stopped the
ratification of the controversial Equal
Rights Amendment. While the series doesn't
outright vilify Schlafly, it instead
implies that she was herself a victim of
sexism and was cast aside by her husband.
Portraying her as subservient and cunning
is exactly how conservative women are
still depicted by those who oppose them
today. It's rare that Hollywood ever
produces a series that approaches each
viewpoint without bias. Here again, the
filmmakers have filtered a historical
figure through a single political lens.
