Emancipation Trailer
A runaway slave named Peter (Will Smith)
tries to make his way through the swamps
of Louisiana to the Union Army. The movie
was inspired by "Whipped Peter", a slave
who escaped a Louisiana plantation and
tried to make his way through the swamps
to the Union Army. He became famous when
an 1863 photo of his whip-scarred back was
circulated widely among northerners during
the Civil War.
