The Last Ship's Parachute Kite Sails are a Real Technology

On The Last Ship TV show, crew members launch parachute-style kite sails into the sky to pull the ship. The technology is not as far-fetched as you might think. A German company by the name of SkySails is using parachute sails to assist cargo ships and cut down on fuel costs. In 2008, the U.S. Navy chartered a ship equipped with one of the company's sky sails to haul cargo from Europe to the United States. Read more at The Last Ship: Fact vs. Fiction
