marriage, she was looked down upon by a
hostile court who derided her for her low
birth. Elisabeth was often seen as merely
an ornament that adorned the emperor's
arm, that is until she became an advocate
for Hungary and helped to shape the dual
monarchy of Austria-Hungary in 1867.
