David Foster Wallace Commencement Speech: This is Water (2005)
Author David Foster Wallace delivered this
commencement speech to the graduating
class at Kenyon College on May 21, 2005.
He stresses the importance of
understanding how to think and not just
giving in to unconsciousness, our default
setting. The real value of education, says
Wallace, has "almost nothing to do with
knowledge, and everything to do with
simple awareness..." NPR listed David
Foster Wallace's commencement speech as
one of the best of all time.
