Matthew McConaughey stars as real-life Texan Ron Woodroof, whose wreckless, free-wheeling lifestyle of drugs and women came to a halt in 1985 when he was diagnosed with AIDS and given 30 days to live. Refusing to accept his fate, the HIV-positive Woodroof sought out an alternative to the the FDA approved drugs that had nearly brought him to the brink of death. He instead smuggled non-toxic, anti-viral medications from other countries into America for both himself and others struggling with the disease. The illegal medications helped him to survive for six more years.
